Garden Adventures, originally uploaded by She's Batty.

Turns out my attempt at gardening wasn't a total flop! This weekend I noticed that I actually have a pepper growing! One stinking pepper might not seem like much but it's more than I thought I was going to get out of all these useless plants! LOL!!

It's pretty safe to say that most of my "Garden Adventures" this year have been a flop! My cucumbers, onions, peas, and wildflowers all died... or didn't come up at all! Turns out that crazy Canadian weather + partial shade = nothing. ... or almost nothing. My pumpkin vines are still going. They are going considerably well compared to everything else lol. But it's easy for the pumpkin vines to look like they are doing so well next to dead plants and baron dirt! They aren't growing well enough yet for me to get my hopes up about getting actual pumpkins. If they are anything like the pepper plant and the tomato plant, all I'll get is vines. The pepper plant is still looking pretty good and has a few white flowers on it this week but it's not growing very fast at all. The tomato plant on the other hand is growing "like a bad weed" but not producing any tomatoes! It's just a big, unruly, useless plant. Sigh. Maybe I should just stick with crafting.
My gardening adventures haven't been a total failure so far. Just a half failure. Half of everything I planted is now long gone. We had a few cold spells so I'm sure it was that and not my gardening skills ;) hehe..

The pumpkins are the only thing growing outside right now besides weeds! They are the thing that I will be upset over if I don't get some pumpkins in time for Halloween so thankfully they seem to be doing ok. See picture below....

The tomato and pepper plants are growing really well inside. You will remember from a few weeks ago we brought them inside when we were having that cold weather. The tomato plant just keeps growing and growth but no tomatoes yet. My mom came over and told us about "suckers" so we pulled a few of those off the plant. The pepper plant has a few white flowers on it now so I'm keeping a close eye on those to see if any peppers come from them.
I'm starting to realize that gardening is a hobby that is just too slow for me. I've some what lost interest in it already because I'm not the most patient of people. If it wasn't for the plants being in the studio I would probably forget to water them. The pumpkin plants have got lots of rain lately so I haven't had to worry about watering them. I think not having to water the pumpkins is the only thing that I like rain for. ha!

Not much to report today. Things are pretty much the same as last week. I'll get a picture up of the pumpkin patch soon.

Since I don't have much to share from my garden I thought I'd share The Pumpkin Nook with you instead! It's an awesome resource for all things pumpkin!! There's even a wedding ceremony going on right now ;)

We've moved the tomato plant and the pepper plant inside. We had a few cool days last week and they weren't getting enough sunlight in the backyard. My studio is the room that gets the most sunlight in our house so that's where these plants will stay for the time being. Hopefully we'll see lots of growth from them with all the extra sunlight they will get now. The pumpkin vines are kicking. Their growth as definitely slowed down since moving them outside. They are mostly in the shade unfortunately. No change with the onions and the peas don't look so hot. Hopefully with the warmer weather this week things will start to perk up again.

Not much to report other than my pumpkin patch is doing great! Remember the pictures from last week? Well the transfer to outside was a success! As you can see the vines are growing well! I can't wait to watch it grow and produce awesome pumpkins! The tomato and pepper plants are growing really well too although something has been eating the flowers off of them :(

Above: The pumpkin seeds I planned last weekend have REALLY done well inside! I'll be planting them in the garden outside this week because they have quickly out grown the vase I have them. It also looks like the threat of cold weather has passed so they should be ok outside. I hoping they don't die after the replant! I'm worried that they wont get enough sun out in the garden but they can't stay inside forever! Wish my little pumpkins the best of health!

Above: The roots have quickly taken over the vase! I'm so glad i planted them in this clear vase because the roots look so darn cool!!!

Above: You know it wouldn't be a garden update without a picture of the fungi that we don't try to grow but nonetheless it's the thing that does the best in our yard! *sigh*

Above: The pepper plant and the tomato plant are doing REALLY well. I'll be transferring one of them to a different pot this week after I pick the extra pot up from my mom's place. They should thrive even more when they have more space to "themselves".

Above: The biggest pumpkin sprout outside right now. There's only 2 or 3 other ones and they are VERY VERY small. I think the rest really did die. Hopefully these little guys are fighters and will make it!

Above: The peas are doing great as well! They have really come a long way in the past 2 weeks!

Above: The onions are still thriving as well. I don't know how to know when they are ready to be harvested. Anyone know? Please leave a comment if you have any tips! I think I'll plant more this week because the cucumbers are no where to be found. I think I'll use that space for more onions so we'll have a continuous supply :)

The pepper plant (shown above) is doing really well! So is the tomato plant, it's grow a lot since the last update - I even had to "stake it up".

Progress with the onions and pea pods. The cucumbers are supposed to be where that bare patch is. A few things have sprouted there but nothing has happened since. I'm wondering if the cold weather got to them.

I have two little sprouts like this in the pumpkin patch. I'm glad at least something is growing in there but not as much as I expected. So, just in case I got some more seeds (see below).

Since I think a lot of my pumpkin seeds where killed by the cold we had, we picked another pack of seeds. I decided to go with the pros advice and do some "germination" he he. They are now soaking up all the sun in my studio window for a few days.
We had some really weird weather around here in the last week. It's been rainy, then cold, then hot, then rain cold and hot! The onions didn't seem to mind though. They still seem to be growing great! I have really seen some major growth from them in the last week!  I wish I could say the same for the pumpkin patch! I was excited to see it starting to grow last week but now there doesn't seem to be any signs of anything happening. Just a big patch of dirt :(  Any body have any suggestions for helping my poor pumpkin seeds grow? I'll be utterly disappointed if the pumpkin patch is the only thing that fails to grow!

Oh, and on a side note, while I was taking these pictures the old man next door sprayed me with water!!! He was supposedly water his garden but it's pretty hard to believe that "watering his garden" means spraying water OVER the fence into someone else's yard --- more than just our yard actually -- on to ME!... I said "I'd prefer not to be watered!" .. He scowled at me and started water some hedge on the other side of his yard. The dogs were between me and the water so I think he was actually trying to spray them. He's still ticked off from last week when he was peeking over into our yard and got startled by Noel letting him know that peeping toms are not welcome around here! LOL! Good old Noel, always on the look out so she can alert us of any creepers!
I am excited to share this update with you because things are actually happening now! When I went out to the garden this weekend things had really changed! What was once just a patch of dirt, now has things sprouting up all over the place!

That's right, a raccoon attack! I couldn't figure out what (or whom) was digging up my onion bulbs. The onion bulbs were all sitting on top of the dirt earlier in the week and there was what looked like "hand marks" in the dirt around them. I knew it wasn't our dogs because if they had dug them up ... 1) I would have been surprised because they aren't "diggers".. and 2) they wouldn't have been so neat about it ha ha. Later that night, while sitting on the deck, my hubby saw the big masked bandit coming out of one of the big trees on our property to make his move! We caught the onion disturber red handed! He must have been spooked to realize that my hubby was watching him because he hasn't been back since!

There looks like a good amount of growth with the pepper plant and the tomato plant. No food yet though.

Of course the fungi is still growing more than anything else ha ha!
There's not a whole lot of change to share with you since last week but I took pictures to document my garden adventures anyways!

I think the pepper plant and the tomato plant have grown a bit. The pepper plant is definitely standing up straighter. Other than that we only seem to be growth lots of fungi! lol!

Oh, and I also couldn't resist showing of our doggies (what else was I supposed to entertain you with? hehe).

Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll have more "growth" to show you than just the ridiculous mushrooms :)

This is the first year I've decided to try out my "green thumb" - or lack thereof! On the weekend my hubby and I went to a few garden centres to collect a few goodies. We came back with pumpkin seeds, cucumber seeds, pea pod seeds, wildflower seeds, onion bulbs, a tomato plant and a green pepper plant. I'm super excited for things to start to grow. Gardening is going to test my patience  because I've never been good at waiting. Hopefully waiting and watching will pay off and my little seeds will start to grow and thrive.

Here's a bit of a photo-recap of what things look like on the first day we planted. I also included the fungi that has been growing like crazy in the backyard.

Watch for more updates as things start to bloom :)
