There’s a bohemian DIY craft movement bubbling just below the surface of the London mainstream shopping experience. On Saturday July 17th, local Londoners can get a peak into this movement as Jamie (aka Batty) hosts a crafty open house at the edge of Old South London. Jamie’s the soap maker behind “Batty’s Bath” and says that “our last open house was so successful, we had to do it again and this time, we wanted our friends there too”. This time Jamie will be joined by several of her crafty friends including Brandy and Erin, the monster makers behind beStuffies, and Elizabeth of ElizabethMD Jewelry Designs.

Batty’s Bath, offers delicious bath products made with cruelty free and vegan friendly locally sourced ingredients. Jamie is a self-proclaimed “tree hugger,” who integrates her motto of “tread lightly” into what she creates – whether it’s through the ingredients she uses or in her packaging. Some of her products include the delicious chocolate covered strawberries lip balm, citrus mist body scrub, coconut cream whipped body butter and other mouth-watering flavours For more details and a sneak peak at products available please visit BattysBath.com

beStuffies, creates a variety of creatures and totebags including monsters, bears, zombies, vampires, aliens and market bags. Their products are made from a variety of new materials, recycled materials, and odds and ends that may otherwise have been discarded. Their goal is to create imaginative and unique plush softies. All their creatures are made with love and care. Their motivation stems from a want to move away from mass produced product into the one of kind handmade. For more details and a glimpse at their products please visit beStuffies.com

ElizabethMD offers one of a kind jewelry for one of a kind women. Everything from being draped in swarovski crystals for a black tie affair, to fun every day bracelets, necklaces and earrings that will never go out of style. Being a one of a kind designer, there is constant change going on in the shop so to keep up check in often at ElizabethMD.etsy.com

Londoners and other area locals looking for unique handmade finds will want to come out to this open house between noon and 7pm on Saturday July 17, 2010. For directions, address location, and more visit the Facebook Event Page.

Drew and I finally had some days off together so we totally took advance of this rarity! We got out and about to a few of the local hot spots that we've been wanting to check out. Our first stop was the new Relish restaurant. They had their grand opening on June 11th and I had heard so many good things about them since then! Good news travels fast! I love that a "veggie burger" isn't some after thought at the bottom of the menu - any of their burgers can be a veggie burger! They have 40 different "burger topping combos" and you choose what type of patty you'd like. Drew and I have a hard time finding places that we both like so Relish was SO refreshing because we both loved everything we got! We'll definitely be back again soon :)

Next on our list of places to visit was Weezi (also see her Etsy shop here). Lisa and I had become "twitter friends" but hasn't meet in person yet so Drew and I took the opportunity to walk up to her shop on Friday. I've got to say it's one of the funky and cutest places I've been in a long time! Lisa and I hit it off right away in person and you'd swear we had known each other for years! It's so great meeting like-minded people who are also just a few blocks away!! I seriously can't tell you how excited I've been lately about connecting and forming friendships with such amazing people like Lisa, Erin, and Brandy! You girls all rock my world!

If you're in London, Ontario and haven't been to Relish or Weezi yet, get your butts down there!

Relish is located at 135 Wortley Road.

Weezi (shown in the picture->) is located at the corner of Albert and Richmond Rd. (right above Prince Al's). Let Lisa know "batty" sent ya! ;)
I know I'm not the only one freezing up here in Canada, and also pretty sure I'm not the only one that would rather be hibernating than facing winter! Unfortunately, complete hibernation isn't an option for most of us so we have to suck it up and keep warm the best we can.... grin and bare it so to speak. That's where Creatiknit comes in! Creatiknit is a cozy shop on Etsy that offers lots of fab stuff to keep us northerners warm when old man winter is being a total jerk! Creatiknit is run by a super friendly mother of 3 (I love chatting with her on twitter) who can't put her knitting needles down (thankfully for us!).

Check out some of the cozy, pretty, and practical items that are currently available in her shop below. Yes, even your timmy's cup and apple can stay warm! ;)

I have some really exciting news!
Some of my handmade items are now available in St.Thomas at the "Tabby's Treasures", the Animal Aide gift shop!

I'm super excited to get my handmade items out into the community, but even more excited to able to help out a vital charity that's saving the lives of our stray, lost, and abandoned feline friends!

The gift show is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 4pm. Tabby's Treasures is located right beside the main Animal Aide building at 335 Talbot St, St. Thomas.

Find out more about Animal Aide and Tabby's Treasures at their web site.

Have I told you I love my online friends? They are so sweet to me! Today Jennifer of Haffina Creations posted the sweetest feature on her blog about me! Her kind words actually brought a tear of joy to my eye! I'm such a sap I know, but once you read the wonderful things she said about me you'll know why - you'd cry for joy too!

Please show her as much support as she's shown me by checking out her blog and online shops: Haffina Creations on Artfire, Beads by Haffina on Artfire, and Haffina Again on Etsy.

Thanks so much Jennifer *hugs*

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

I'm busy busy busy today celebrating Halloween and having a big party tonight! I can't wait! I'll be sure to share a few pictures from today soon :)

Since I don't have much time to be online today, I thought I'd share some of my fav Halloween picks from other handmade sellers! These artists really pulled out all the stops on these awesome items! I'd like to buy them all!

Here are my favs...

As Halloween grows closer the air gets colder, the leaves change color, and the pumpkins ripen in the fields. People start wearing orange and brown a bit more, the days grow hazy, and the smell of spices kill kitchens across the city. Autumn isn't just my favourite season because of Halloween you know.... I love everything about this season! It flies by so fast and is followed up by the season I hate the most - cold COLD winter. But, winter isn't hear yet so we aren't even going to talk about it. Instead we'll give thanks for the wonderful fall season! We had Thanksgiving at my parents place today and it was good to get together with family. The meal was good too of course ;) I usually plan "Tofurkey Day" at our place - a pot lock for friends - I made the Tofurkey and they bring the sides, but this year has just been so busy with the transition back into school full time and prepping for a big craft show at the end of the month. Maybe I'll have a "Post Tofurkey Day" post luck in November :)

To celebrate Thanksgiving (or Tofurkey Day), I searched high and low for some unique handmade finds! Here's what I found from around the web (click on the picture to see the listing):

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Larry is a disabled diabetic who currently has lost his health insurance. His medication alone monthly is over $2,000. Larry is not receiving disability, he has not been approved yet. Larry´s doctors have given him an outlook of only 18 months to live if he doesn´t receive a $17,000 gastric bypass surgery as soon as possible. Larry and his family need all the help from their family and friends they can get! Jacob and Janet need Larry to hang around here with them as long as he possibly can! All of his friends surely want Larry to stick around too!

I had the honor of interviewing Shelly of The Lemon Tree Studio. Shelly is a stay at home mom who has a passion for paper and over 2350 online sales since February of 2008! I asked Shelly to share some of the marketing strategies that make her shop so successful! It was clear to see that when it all comes down to it, having stellar customer service and a unique, fresh product line goes a long way!

Here's a peak at that interview....

"What “online” marketing strategies are you currently using?

Right now I do not do as much as I should! I use Google Analytics to observe and "watch" my traffic so to speak, I blog, I cross-market with one other seller on Etsy, I will sometimes visit the forums on Etsy and I do participate in giveaways and promos on other blogs that request so - But that about it for now......"

Read the whole interview with Shelly at HandmadeNews.org in the Marketing Department where it was originally published.

I'm excited to say that my shamrocks were featured on LuvHandmade.com under their unique finds!! How fabulous! I hear that offer low cost advertising options and a free/fun social network for artisans so they may be worth your while to check out! Plus, I can't help but love any site that "luvs" me first :)

They featured by Etsy shop, but most of my items (including any wonderfully new creations I come up with) are at my Art Fire shop.
