Anyone want to buy this for me? lol.. Come on, you know you want to ;)
I think the fluffy stuff at the bottom only looks good in this picture and wouldn't actually "transfer" very well on to me (or anyone else for that matter)! LOL..

I'm not sure how to explain this but I love the above video more than I could possibly explain. It brings me back to a time in my childhood where my "to do list" (yes, I've always had to do lists) consisted of "draw all the creations in Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Halloween" and "use all the construction paper on window decorations for Halloween". I'm so lucky my parents encouraged me as a "little artist". I was allowed to cover ALL the front windows with my creations and of course, there wasn't even enough space around Halloween for the light to come through those windows! We borrowed Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Halloween so many times at the public library that they finally told us that we can't renew it every single time we needed to bring it back! We needed to let someone else borrow it! lol. I'm now so proud to own my own copy. Even if it's a "kids book", it's one of my most cherished books. I spent so many hours with this book and it certainly still inspires my creations now, over 20 years later! So, not only does the above video remind me of all the wonderful creatures in Ed Emberley's book, but the music reminds me of one of my fav movies, Edward Scissorhands. I've loved this movie since it came out in 1990. The above video is a great mix of these two things I love. Whimsical and spooky things like this give me a tingling feeling from my head to my toes. I'm in awe just like a child on Christmas morning. I'm completely captivated and can't look away. It's like visual and audio crack for me!!! If I was a junky, these types of things (the above video, Ed's book, and Edward) would be my addiction - my crack! I just had to share this with you for this Freaky Friday Feature. I wanted to show you a more personal side of me and show you what grabs me and wont let go! I hope there are things in your life that you love so much you can't explain either. We all know that our loved ones have the first spot in our lives and people can easily relate to that. My love for whimsical spooky things is harder to explain, harder to expect people to relate to. I'm sure there are few of you out there that understand. I wish each one of you a full lifetime of inspiring visual & audio candy to feed your creepy artsy soul.

Everyone makes “to do lists” but why do so many of us feel that they are never ending? We feel the stress of being defeated by the “list” at the end of the day when there’s still so many things to “check off”. The fact is that there will always be another task to add to “the list”. You can always be doing something else to get the word out about your business, but you don’t need to feel overwhelmed any more. In my previous articles, Promote Your Artfire or Etsy Shop More in Less Time and A System for Organizing Marketing Tasks to Help You Accomplish More, we started to get your marketing tasks organized so they feel less overwhelming. In this article, I will continue with this series and share with you a very important, yet sometimes hard to accept, lesson in staying organized – and sane! Keep reading....

There’s no doubt that the list of different marketing tasks you would like to accomplish is a mile long. Each day we are presented with new (and old) opportunities to help us get the word out about our handmade shops. It's often hard to feel like you’ve accomplished enough marketing for your shop each day, and even harder to know where to start!

In my last article I showed you a system to help you promote your Artfire or Etsy shop more in less time. This article will continue with this same theme, as promised, and share part of my system for organizing my offline tasks. If you missed my system for completing online tasks, head over to my previous article to get caught up.

Head over the Handmade News to read "A System for Organizing Marketing Tasks to Help You Accomplish More".

Check it out here. If anyone knows where to get this awesome Pac-Man bag PLEASE let me know!

xmasss.jpgBEFORE THE HOLIDAYS.

With Halloween just around the corner, and Christmas close behind it, there's no time to waste! Handmade sellers need to make sure they are ready for the Holiday season and have completed the "leg work" prior to the rush of buyers surfing Etsy, Artfire and 1000 Markets looking for unique Christmas gifts.

I've compiled a quick reference list to help you plan your marketing campaigns before and during the holidays. This reference will be in two parts. Today I will share with you the things you need to do before the holiday season starts, and tomorrow I'll share with you the things you need to do during the holiday season. Feel free to add to my list in the comments below. Let's get started!

DURING THE HOLIDAYS

In my previous article, I shared a checklist of marketing tasks to do before the holiday season starts. In this article, I’ll help you know what to do during the holiday season. If you know what you need to do before the holiday season starts you can plan ahead and be prepared. Let’s jump right into the checklist because after all, there’s no time to waste!

Just listed these two pretty butterfly cards in my online shop!

Volume 25 is a very busy shop at Etsy. Run by Jessica, Volume 25 has had over 860 sales since opening its virtual doors in January of 2008. Jessica shares the marketing strategies she’s used to help build such a successful business with Handmade News. Find out how to market your online craft shop well as Jessica has!
Can you believe September is now half over?! It still feels like August to me. Perhaps because I know the Holiday Shopping Season is just around the corner! It will sneak up on us fast, so we have to make sure our shops are ready now! Halloween is, of course, my favorite holiday and I have been getting ready for it since the of the summer. I'm sure it will pass by in a blur when it actually arrives - it usually does. After the ghouls have left us for another year, Christmas will be the main focus of many - I even saw Canadian Tire setting up for it last weekend!

In the past week at the Marketing Department of Handmade News, we continued to help you get organized with our time-management series, and we interviewed some of the top sellers at Etsy to find out what their marketing strategies are. Why not learn from those who have already had great success with their handmade business?

Here's a recap of the articles posted last week:

Making your Fan Page Work for You
In this article, Libby shares with us how she's made her Facebook Fan Page so successful! There's lots of helpful hints and how-to's that you wont want to miss! Make sure you're getting the most of your fan page by check out this article.

Marketing Strategies Interview with Jeanette of Umecrafts
Jeanette of Umecrafts has had a great response on Etsy with almost 4200 sales since 2007! In this article she shares the marketing strategies she uses to get the word out about her super cute shop.

Marketing Strategies Interview with Jessica of Mia Joie
Even though Jesscia's Etsy shop, Mia Joie, has only been around since March 15, 2008, she has no shortage of sales! With over 790 sales, her part-time business is quickly becoming a full-time adventure! In this article she shares her marketing strategies with us. Anyone who can make such a huge impact on Etsy, in such a short period of time, can surely help other handmade sellers.

Marketing Strategies Interview with Lisa of Savor
Savor on Etsy is run by Mike and Lisa, a husband and wife team of soap-makers. Since opening in their Etsy shop in fall of 2007, this tag team duo has had over 15,110 sales! When you visit their shop you'll be drawn in by all the yummy sounding soaps, body butter, mists, and more! You may think that a shop like this would market itself, but there's always lots of things going on in the background. In this article, Lisa joins us for an interview to discuss how Savor is marketed.

Make Every Listing a Landing Page
A landing page is meant to catch your viewer's attention, make them want your product or service, and make a purchase. Why can't your listings be landing pages! Kristin thinks you can turn each and every listing into a marketing tool, and after reading this, you will think so too!

Marketing Strategies Interview with Christina and Courtney of White Owl
White Owl is a shop on Etsy owned by two sisters, Christina and Courtney. These sisters have a big heart for handmade and often "rescue" their materials at estate sales, flea markets and even their own grandmother! Since opening their shop in 2008, they have had over 530 sales! There is some really tough competition in the handmade jewelry category. In this article, the sisters of White Owl share how they are able to thrive with such competition.

Stop Feeling Guilty for Not Marketing Enough
If you're feeling overwhelmed with all the marketing tasks on your to do list, and feel like you're just keeping your head above water, it's time to read this article. This article is a continuation of the time-management series from last week and is not to be missed! Unless, of course, you don't mind feeling stressed out and are THISCLOSE to burning out ;)

Here's what's new to the shop today!

After Smiss shared this on plurk I couldn't help but share it with all of you! Isn't this little Pylon the cutest thing you've ever seen?! You can get your own, or buy it as a unique Christmas gift for a friend at Plushoff on ArtFire!

BTW, I'm a friend who would like to see this little Pylon arrive in the mail! It should would be a nice change from all the flyers and bills that usually show up! lol.

One of the most important, and least expensive ways to market is to make use of your business cards. If you don’t have business cards you need to get them. Business cards are valuable tools that you will use over and over again so invest some time and effort into creating them.
